The first month of the New Year has come and gone. Since everyone chooses to do their “best of” lists in January — causing us all to be a bit slammed with “bests” — we instead decided to share our must-read supply chain blogs of 2016 a little later. These are the blogs that every organization and career professional should be reading if they’re looking stay ahead of the game this year.
Some are popular blogs that have been around for years and others are rising blogs, but all of these blogs provide valuable content. In no particular order, here are the ten must-read supply chain blogs of 2016.
10 Must-Read Supply Chain Blogs of 2016
Supply Chain Insights is a research and advisory company, founded by Lora Cecere, that focuses on helping supply chain leaders drive greater value. Lora is a metrics guru in the supply chain industry and is author of the popular blog Supply Chain Shaman.
The site provides value for supply chain professionals with their online community, called Beet Fusion, where supply chain professionals have a place to share content, discuss top issues, do financial benchmarking and connect with peers. (Our very own Nari Viswanathan just wrote his first blog for them, actually!)
This site is more than a blog — it is a one-stop shop full of supply chain resource in different formats. They run a podcast, host webinars and have live events to help supply chain professionals advance their careers and the business they work for.
Supply Chain Matters is a global supply chain blog produced by the founder of the Ferrari Group, Bob Ferrari. His background includes years of leadership experience in all aspects of the supply chain business process and supporting information technology.
Bob writes all of his own content from firsthand experience and research. It’s content is written for supply chain leaders by a supply chain leader. (See one of his most popular posts, The Journey Toward Integrated Business Planning)
Innovation Enterprise is a media company with a combination of content across industries such as supply chain management, big data, finance and more. This blog connects with industry leaders across the business spectrum — Fortune 500 companies to small start-ups.
The site offers supply chain professionals to gather information through webinars along with blog posts from multiple authors. At least one article is published every day on the site. The problem is never finding information but finding enough time to read all of the information!
By publishing and producing content across different industries, this site understands supply chain management does not occur in isolation to other industries, which is what places them on the top ten list.
Supply Chain Shaman is another masterpiece by Lora Cecere, the founder of Supply Chain Insights. Though the two blogs talk about the same topics at times, Supply Chain Shaman is an enterprise software blog.
She focuses on topics such as demand shaping, revenue management, the evolution of predictive analytics and so on. This site produces content that is more than news, but is actionable. An organization will have an idea they can implement into their business after reading a blog on this site.
Supply Chain Trend is written by Niels Van Hove, a Netherland native. Niels has been helping businesses improve their supply chain and business planning for more than 18 years.
The blog discusses strategy alignment in an organization, integrated planning and forecasting with a unique twist that focuses on creating effective mindsets and behaviors. For example, Niels recently wrote an article about how to prevent group thinking in an S&OP meeting, so an organization can produce better decision-making outcomes.
Supply Chain Brain is ran by Keller International Publishing Group and is built for high-level executives to help them identify trends, develop strategies and best practices, and create cutting-edge ideas and solutions.
The biggest reason an organization should place this blog in their “To Read” list is because of its industry specific content. It covers industries such as automotive, chemical and energy, retail and so on. Plus, it is an excellent resource for professionals around the world, because it can read in over 60 different languages!
Supply Chain 24/7 is a business resource for supply chain, logistics, distribution and transportation professionals. The site is ran by Peerless Media and is an aggregation news site about the industry.
The site discusses and shares a wide-range of topics from laws that may affect how business is done to recent trends in supply chain management. Professionals will find this site useful to ensure their companies are aware of any circumstances that may cause otherwise unforeseen changes affecting their business.
Supply Chain Management Review, or SCMR, is a highly respected publication that produces content about supply chain, logistics and other such topics. Their style is similar to Harvard Business Review— SCMR publishes columns and features written by school professors, industry analysts and leaders.
SCMR also publishes case studies of top companies such as Wal-Mart and IBM which provide unique insights that supply chain professionals can implement within their organization. They also conveniently offer a magazine subscription.
Supply Chain Digital is a digital publication and magazine that produces content almost every day. The website is simple, easy to navigate and has almost zero distractions. It’s also among the more “visually appealing” of the blogs listed here (who doesn’t love a good UI). Most topics on the blog deal with global and international supply chain matters.
The Wall Street Journal, though not a supply chain blog directly, offers incredible value through their news articles about industry trends and consumer behaviors. The WSJ shares articles such as, “Online Shoppers Want it Fast” or “Trucking Companies Confront Amazon Threat” that can help professionals stay informed about events that may impact their field.
The WSJ does an excellent job at incorporating finances, economics and more into every post that they publish.
